The Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres Inc. (BYSMPI) started operating as a feeding center in June 2002, and was then called the Saint Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen. Some friends of the poor started the feeding center, with the vision of helping the hopeless street children of the City of Manila through the initiative of Rev. Fr. Florentino S. Concepcion better known as, “Father Boyet”. At first, some 50 street children would come for lunch and dinner everyday, attracted by the hot meals. The “Bambang” children, as they were called, came from various locations within Metro Manila. They were hungry, dirty, noisy and unruly until they learned their first prayer and felt freedom from fear during the night. Not long after, they eventually felt secure and loved to stay for longer periods of time.

In November 2002, the St Martin de Porres Soup Kitchen decided to open the place so the children will have a place to stay during the night. However, due to the unhealthy conditions of the temporary shelter, BYSMPI decided to provide a more permanent shelter for them in Bulacan. Hence, in December 2003, a house was built in Bustos, Bulacan, on a lot donated by a good-hearted couple. The construction of the house was made possible through donations and through the help of the apostolate mission for the street children; in due time, the children were transferred to their new residence. There, several programs to ensure the healing and the well-being of the children were initiated and implemented. Meanwhile, the drop-in center and the feeding center in Manila are still maintained in order to continue helping other poor families in the area forge through the launching of Lingap Kapatid Program on July 2009.

The residential formation house in Bustos presently continues to take care of children in crisis (e.g. street children, runaways, orphans, homeless, destitute, abandoned and physically-abused) in the same way that a providential hand continues to lead children to Bahay at Yaman ni San Martin de Porres in Bonga Menor, Bustos, Bulacan. Currently, there are 88 housed children, 5 children in the independent living program, 2 children in college and 3 children in technical school.  The children at San Martin range in age from 6 to 17 years old and consist of mostly street children, victims of child labor, physical abuse and substance abuse.
